In Nigeria, understanding money is a daily necessity. The official CBN rate, the parallel market, the stablecoin route, inflation that eats away at the naira, the fixed deposit that never keeps up, the MPR decisions: all of it forms an ecosystem that few publications cover with the depth it deserves. Most choose between two paths, the speed of the daily rate headline or the shallowness of the generic guide. The Cowrie chooses a third.
We were born of the conviction that the Nigerian saver, the one who dollarizes a little at a time, who compares a fixed deposit against T-bills against USDT, who watches the gap between the official and parallel rate like a thermometer, deserves analysis as rigorous as what a large fund would commission behind closed doors.
01Our Mission
The Cowrie is where global macro meets the naira. When the Federal Reserve moves rates, when the dollar strengthens worldwide, when the mood of global markets shifts, those decisions reach Nigeria through the exchange rate, the parallel gap and capital flows. Explaining that chain of transmission, with data and without lazy simplification, is what drives us.
We are not a rate tracker. We are not a forum. We are not a broker blog. We are a space for rigorous long-form analysis, primary sources and verified data, written for the reader who is already past the introductory notes.
02Methodology
Everything published on The Cowrie follows four non-negotiable principles:
- 01Verifiable data from primary sources: CBN, NBS, CoinGecko, Binance P2P, NGX, SEC Nigeria and FRED. We never quote a figure without naming the original source and the date it was consulted.
- 02No opinion on individual assets. We analyse the dollar, inflation, deposit rates, stablecoins and monetary policy; we do not make buy or sell recommendations on specific assets.
- 03Dated, transparent updates. When an article is revised after publication, the update date appears in the header together with the changes made.
- 04Full editorial independence. The Cowrie receives no payment to publish analysis favourable to any company, product or financial institution.
